Bible Association Conference in Dublin
Next Saturday, 21 April, the Biblical Association for the Church of Ireland (BACI) will hold a one day conference in the Church of Ireland Theological Institute on ‘The Bible in the Church of Ireland’. The principal speakers will be Professor David Ford from Cambridge, Professor Gordon McConville from the University of Gloucester and Stephen Lyons from the Anglican Communion Office and the Bible in the Life of the Church (BiLC) project. After lunch there will be a panel discussion with the Archbishop of Dublin and the Bishop of Cashel & Ossory.

BACI hopes that the conference will spark renewed and serious discussion within the Church of Ireland on how the Bible is, could, and ought to be read. It is also a continuation of BACI’s attempts to interact with the BiTC project which was begun through ‘Lent 2011’. The organizers hope that the conference can foster discussion on what it means to have an Anglican biblical hermeneutic.

The conference will also function as the inaugural AGM of BACI so that a committee can be elected by a wider representation of the Church of Ireland. Further information and registration details may be at from baci.anglican@gmail.com

A new dream in Belfast’s historic Titanic Quarter
The Titanic was called the “ship of dreams”. A hundred years after it sank, a church in the Belfast dock where the great ship was built has a new dream for a boat that will bring people together and give them new life.

Diversity and Healing in Ireland
New York Times – Ireland’s government is moving forward with plans to end the Catholic Church’s monopoly of the nation’s primary school system. More diversity in institutions and ideas will be good for students. The change should promote healing in a country traumatized by the church’s cover-up of years of sexual abuse of children by rogue priests.
An initial government study last week identified 50 schools in Dublin and 43 towns where the demand for multi-denominational education was greatest and school control could be shifted to other sponsors, secular or religious.

RTÉ has no remit to be blinkered by liberal bias
Irish times – Breda O’Brien writes – Journalists who think they know the best ‘way forward’ run the risk of flouting standards. The Prime Time discussion of the leaked briefing document on the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland investigation into Mission to Prey was revealing, not least because of what was not addressed.

Your song could go global
As the Anglican Church of Canada prepares for the 2014 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, it seeks original music compositions: A Canadian writing team preparing materials for the 2014 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is seeking original music compositions. If chosen, your song could be sung around the world for this important ecumenical event. The team seeks songs suitable for congregations and with words in French or English—ideally both. They can be hymns, praise choruses or shorter songs and must speak to the 2014 theme “Has Christ Been Divided?” based on 1 Corinthians 1:1-17. The deadline is May 31 and songs may be submitted by email.
