Changing Attitude Ireland seek engagement with new Primate
Canon Charles Kenny the Secretary of the Church of Ireland pro-gay group Changing Attitude Ireland congratulated and extended its good wishes to the Most Revd Richard Clarke on his appointment as the new Archbishop of Armagh.
Canon Kenny expressed his hope that the new Archbishop of Armagh will engage with the Church’s gay members with a view to making the Church a genuinely inclusive place for LGBT persons.
Canon Kenny said that the exclusion of openly gay and lesbian persons from entering the ordained ministry and the exclusion in some parishes of gay men and women from Holy Communion were injustices in the Church which needed to be on the agenda of the new Archbishop.
He added that gay and lesbian members of the Church were available to meet with the new Archbishop to discuss how the Church can move forward after the hurt felt by the Church’s LGBT members following the majority vote at the Church’s General Synod in May 2012 where same-sex relationships were declared to be not ‘normative’.

Paralympic themed Messy Church
Sixteen–year–old Scout Daniel O’Mahony, who climbed Slieve Donard in August to help light the Paralympic flame, will be the special guest at the All Saints’ Messy Church on Sunday October 7. Daniel’s left leg was amputated below the knee. He will be sharing the story of his epic climb as part of the hour–long programme of stories, quizzes, games, fun–songs, refreshments and fellowship which makes up this unique event aimed at parents with young children. This month the theme will be ‘Celebrating the Paralympics’ and activities will include a range of simple sporting events based on the famous games, such as a blindfold obstacle course.
Messy Church takes place in All Saints’ Hall, Linn Road, Larne, at 11.30am on the first Sunday of every month and any parents [or grandparents] with young children are all most welcome to attend.
