Come and take some musical “French leave”

From the Diocese of Europe – Dr Amanda Haste from RSCM France tells us members are working to fulfil the aim of the Royal School of Church Music in promoting music in worship. Following highly successful ‘Singing Days’ at St George’s, Paris and John the Baptist in St Raphaël we are now planning a residential weekend which is open to all chaplaincies in the Diocese. The details below may help you plan your Summer.

The Royal School of Church Music, which aims to encourage and inspire good use of music, above all in Christian worship, is holding a residential Weekend (21-23 June 2013) on the theme ‘Come and Praise the Lord’.The weekend, at Renouveau Holiday Village in a pretty area of the Var, will cover different ways of singing the psalms, hymns ancient and modern, worship songs, Taizé and “short songs” (Rizza style) in a programme designed to appeal to all styles of worship currently used in the Diocese of Europe. Practical sessions including services, plus an informal concert, may include using instrumental music in worship, depending on demand.

Renouveau is easily accessible by air (Nice, Toulon), road or rail and has excellent facilities including swimming pool; non-participating family and friends are welcome (golf course 15 mins, beach 30 mins). RSCM France need to know likely numbers so they can finalise course programme and prices, so if you are interested please contact Secretary Shirley Rowson as soon as possible on peterandshirley.rowson@gmail.com

The Invisible, from Daniel Bashta

Daniel Bashta will be releasing his next album, The Invisible, on 5 February.
It follows his acclaimed 2011 debut, The Sounds of Daniel Bashta, which included “God’s Not Dead (Like A Lion)”. The track proved a hit and was re-recorded by Newsboys and David Crowder Band among others.

Daniel’s latest musical offering includes new song “Just Give Me Jesus”, inspired in part by Melody Green’s book, No Compromise.

And it’s the real Jesus Daniel wants.

“My whole life, I’ve been part of these revival meetings, seen healings, all these crazy, beautiful things happen,” Bashta says.

“Even in all that, I’m still searching for the real Jesus in my life. …The Invisible is full of songs for a generation sick of singing songs.

“They don’t really care about building mega churches. They care about revolution. They want to see their cities changed. God is looking for a generation full of conviction.”

New album from Hawk Nelson this spring

Hawk Nelson will be releasing their sixth studio album on 2 April.

Made includes the new single “Words” and its release follows the recent change in line-up after former frontman Jason Dunn left the band to pursue his solo career.

Guitarist Jonathan Steingard took over as lead vocal and the band is now a trio with bassist Daniel Biro and drummer Justin Brenner.

Biro, who co-founded the band ten years ago, has grown with Hawk Nelson this last decade and believes all of the change has resulted in an honest and God-breathed product.

“This time around,” says Biro, “we’re going through all of this emotional change, physical change, and God breathed some new songs that channeled all those feelings and doubts and emotions into these lyrics.”

Chris Tomlin tops charts with Burning Lights

Chris Tomlin has been given a generation of churchgoers the words to praise God and his newest album, Burning Lights, offers up yet more beautiful worship songs for the worldwide church.

Burning Lights has shot to the No 1 spot on the iTunes Christian & Gospel Albums Chart and has reached No 2 on the iTunes Overall Albums Chart.

The album is a collection of 12 songs, including the first single “Whom Shall I Fear [God Of Angel Armies]”, which has gone down well with critics and fans alike.
With its catchy melody and powerful declaration of God’s authority, the song is likely to become another favourite alongside his best known hits like “Holy is the Lord”.
