Paula cooks up a great evening at St Columba’s, Knock
St Columba’s, Knock, recently hosted celebrity chef and lecturer Paula McIntyre who provided an evening of laughter, entertainment and cookery.
Two hundred parishioners and visitors watched Paula prepare a range of autumn dishes using seasonal ingredients, presented in her unique style. She created seven delicious meals and regaled the audience with stories and humorous comments as she cooked.
There was a chance to taste Paula’s cooking and chat over a delicious supper prepared by the Fundraising and Catering Committees, who were all on hand to make sure that everyone had a great night.
Paula’s effervescent personality shone through the whole evening, indeed the folks at St Columba’s rate it as one of the most entertaining events of the parish year!
The rector, Canon John Auchmuty, thanked everyone for their terrific support which raised £3,200 for the Church Roof Appeal.

The Methodist President’s week
Last week in Dublin I experienced some highs and lows.
Lunch in the South Korean Ambassador’s residence was a high, as were visits to Wesley College and to Paul and Edna Kingston, Ken and Sheila Thompson, Dudley Cooney, Eric and Frances Duncan, Des and Val Bain, David and Rhoda Nixon, Gillian Stephens, Beryl Good (whose husband Gordon had died a few days earlier) and Zoe Marshall. The lows included discovering the vast extent of homelessness in Dublin and in Ireland – a systemic problem, the hundreds of people in Dublin City Centre unable to afford a square meal, the huge problems associated with drugs and the gangs making fortunes out of them, and the fact that 90% of prisoners in Dublin reoffend. Are we to curse the darkness or light a candle? Constructive action is better than destructive judge-mentalism. Chad Varrah understood this when he started The Samaritans all those years ago. Peter McVerry understood this when he set up his trust to address the needs of the Dublin homeless. Father Kevin understood this when he established the kitchens that now serve 1000 meals 6 days a week in Dublin. I found God in the highs and the lows. #GodIsOurAdventure. Every blessing.
