Plant and Pray at The Glen

Wellie boots, compost and plants don’t typically equate with remembering our loved ones, but the Glen estate in Newtownards brought these ingredients together to create a colourful and imaginative display at the entrance to the estate.

Locals gathered to place a plant inside a wellie boot in memory of a loved one before it was put up on the fence at the side of the Glen Community House.

In conjunction with the local community association, the area at the entrance to the estate is being set aside for people to come together to REST, REFLECT & REMEMBER and the planted wellie boots compliment this ethos.

The spot will also be home to a Suicide Awareness Bench presented to the town of Newtownards by the Ards Suicide Awareness Group.

Revd Stephen Doherty, Glen Community Church leader and Chair of the group said:

“This is the perfect site for this very special purpose. With two other benches sited alongside the Suicide Awareness one, this space provides a physical place for rest, and many local residents gather there at all times of the day. Our prayer is that as they gather, they will find God’s presence and peace, encouraging each of them to reflect on their own lives and remember the influences left by loved ones no longer with us.”
