January 2020 marks 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz.
There are a number of events taking place in Northern Ireland to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

The Northern Ireland Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration
This will take place at Belfast City Hall on the evening of Monday 27 January 2020.
Keynote speaker at the event will be Holocaust survivor Tomáš Reichental, who along with his family was held in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp from 1944 – 1945, until it was liberated by British troops.
The 2020 regional commemoration will also feature poetry readings by Michael Longley and Maureen Boyle, as well as a performance by Lagan College Choir.
The event is open to the public and a limited number of tickets are available.

Lunchtime lecture at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland
To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, Dr Pamela Aveyard will give a lecture on the work of Alfred Neumann and the Belfast Jewish Refugee Committee
No individual single-handedly arranged for the transfer of as many Jewish refugees into Northern Ireland during the Second World War as Alfred Neumann, yet the Viennese businessman’s efforts are virtually unknown. As part of the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland’s Holocaust Memorial Day events, Dr Pamela Aveyard will examine the work of the Belfast Jewish Refugee Committee and the independent efforts of Alfred Neumann to rescue Jews from the horrors of the Holocaust.

Annual Shoah Service in Bangor
The annual Shoah service at Bangor West Presbyterian church is being held on Tuesday 28 January 2020, 7.30pm.
The principal speaker is Rev David Kale of the Belfast Jewish community.

Ards and North Down Borough Counci annual Holocaust event
Ards and North Down Borough Council host a commemorative Holocaust event every year. This year they have Eve Kugler, a first generation Holocaust survivor speaking at the event.
