Bereavement
Sympathy is extended to Allen and Richard Yarr on the death of their father Jim. Allen is organist in St Colman’s, Dunmurry and Richard is organist at Christ Church, Lisburn. Their father, Richard James Allen Yarr, who has died at the age of 70 caught the eye of a Manchester United scout when he was a footballer with Linfield, for whom he signed as a 16-year-old. In a tribute to Jim in the ‘Belfast Telegraph’, Eddie McIlwaine states that the young fullback who was a magnet for several cross channel clubs, rejected the chance for sporting life as a professional soccer player and instead choose to carve out a career working on the land. Jim – as he was always known – was only 19 when his father Richard passed away aged 56 in 1961, leaving him to take over the milk herd at Oakleigh in Rose’s Lane Ends, south Antrim. Jim alsoThe was passionate about music and played the flute in Roses Lane Ends Flute Band. Although he was desperately ill, he managed to attend Allen’s wedding in a wheelchair three weeks ago when the groom walked down the aisle with his bride, Dr. Carolyn Hunter.
