“Scrubs” Hero Bears go to Antrim hospital emergency department

“Scrubs” Hero Bears went to Antrim Hospital Emergency Department for the children of frontline workers in Sharon McCullough’s Team who are doing an amazing job.

Each bear comes with a note:

“Scrubs Hero Bear would like to keep you company
while your Mum or Dad is working so hard
to help people who are sick
Your Mum or Dad is a Scrubs Hero
so Scrubs would love to be Your Hero Too”

So far sixty-five bears have been crocheted by members of the Antrim High Street Presbyterian Church Reaching Out Crochet Group and Crochet Classes.

Many thanks go to High Street Reaching Out Group who funded the cost of the wool, Betty Robb for the wrapping materials and wool, to Beth Dawson, Melanie Gill, Alice Heatley, Margretta McCullough, Jacqui Mitchell, Marion Morrow, Sharon Pearson and Ina Slane for all their hard work crocheting the bears and David Heatley for the verse and labels.

“The idea came when my daughter saw a crochet pattern by Aixan Legasto and asked me to crochet the bears for her children as she prepared to work on the front line,” said Margretta, “when I mentioned it to my crochet friends the idea took off and we have all contributed as many ‘Scrubs’ as we have had the time to make. Every single bear counts because it is another Hero to help a frontline family.”

Some parents choose to spray their own perfume or aftershave on the bear so that their child is comforted by “Scrubs” when the parent is at work.

One member of the team said, “What a privilege to have been given the chance to take part in this 🐻❤️x”
