SPEAKING TO THE SOUL

Sunday 2nd October

A QUOTE, A TEXT AND A PRAYER…OR TWO

A QUOTE
Lord Jesus, you were called the friend of sinners, be my friend, for I acknowledge that I have sinned. Forgive the wrong that I have done and and the right that I have failed to do; my secret and my more open sins; my sins of ignorance and my deliberate sins; sins to please myself and sins to please others; the sins which I remember, and the sins which I have forgotten; forgive all these, for it was for me also that you died. My Lord and Saviour. John Wesley

A TEXT
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast goodness; In your abundant mercy blot out my offences. Wash me thoroughly from my sin. For I acknowledge my rebelliousness, And my sin is always before me. Against you only have I sinned, And done what is evil in your eyes. Purge me with hyssop and I shall be whiter than snow. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51

AND A PRAYER…OR TWO
I praise you O Lord for all that I see of you in the work of creation, the earth, the sea and sky and everything that has breath. You are worthy to be praised and I know that your promises are true that now I am only beginning to taste the glory that shall be revealed when you O God take power and reign. Lord God I am surrounded by blessings and my heart is full of thanksgiving for all that you have done for me. I know that I am not worthy to be called your child and yet I give you thanks that you love me and gave your only Son Jesus Christ who died for me. Lord God I thank you for all of your faithfulness to me and others who worship you in this place. I praise you that you are faithful good and true and that you hate nothing that you have made. For your love and kindness to me and to all your children I praise your name. Now may the offering of my life and the words of my mouth be acceptable acts of thanksgiving and praise to you. Lord Jesus Christ, fill me I pray with your light that I may reflect your wondrous glory

Teach us, good Lord, to serve thee as thou deservest; to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the wounds; to toil and not to seek for rest; to labour and not to ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do thy will, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. St. Ignatius 1491 – 1556
