Cathedral turns into a circus for children’s day

Lion tamers, acrobats, clowns and jugglers will transform Llandaff Cathedral into a Big Top circus this weekend to entertain children from across South Wales.

There will be workshops on circus skills, crafts and story-telling at the event on Saturday (Oct 1) which is organised by the children’s committee of Llandaff Diocese. The Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, will also pop in to meet the children and join them for a short service after lunch.

The aim of the day is for children from all the churches in the Diocese to meet up, have fun and worship together, said Revd Pauline Williams, vicar of Baglan and retiring children’s officer.

She said, “Our theme this year is ‘Fools for Christ’ – hence the circus theme. We expect about 150 children to turn up and they will move around the Cathedral trying out all sorts of activities, such as juggling, uni-cycling and, of course, being a clown. There will also be craft activities, story-telling and dance workshops. We’ll all come together at the end for a short act of worship at which children will be encouraged to share some of what they have experienced during the day.”
