Congratulations Dr Thompson

Congratulations to the Reverend Peter Thompson who has been awarded a Doctor in MInistry degree from Golden State School of Theology.

His research focused on enabling congregational singing of the psalms, and drew together biblical and theological reflections on the nature of psalmody, Christian interpretations of the pslams together with liturgical use and approaches to psalmody, and an overview of musical interpretations of the psalms in liturgy. The culmination of the research was to draw together each of these stands of exploration in a compositional project providing musical settings of the psalms suitable for congregational use. The results  of the research have contributed to the three volume series “Singing Psalms”, published by Columba Press and sponsored by the Liturgical Advisory Committee.

Revd Dr Peter Thompson is Rector of St Michael’s, Castlecaulfield & St Patrick’s, Donaghmore. He is Succentor & Assistant Organist, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh, and as the preceding news item on the proposed supplement to the hymn book shows – he is active on behalf of this Church of Ireland.
