“As the full impact of the death of Mr Brian Lenihan TD sinks in, both at home and abroad, I wish to express sympathy to all members of his family.
I should like also to honour the courage of someone who battled gracefully and faithfully with cancer. He did so while neglecting none of his arduous and complex political duties.
Service combined with selflessness in the case of someone of tremendous civic energy and instinct for leadership. His immense contribution to Irish life will be appreciated fully only in retrospect.”
