The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, the Bishop of Bradford, Nick Baines, and other delegates from the Church of England are visiting Dresden and Meissen from 13-16 October 2011.
The Archbishop has been invited to sign his name in the Golden Book of the City of Meissen with Präses Nikolas Schneider, Chair of the Evangelische Kirche (EKD).
The Archbishop is to visit the Martha-Hospiz Dresden, and will attend the working sessions on the theme of ‘The Place and Purpose of the Visitation’ with speakers including Bishop Prof Dr Friedrich Weber and Propst Sigurd Rinck. He will also visit local manufacturers in Meissen prior to signing the Golden Book of the city. The Archbishop will also preach at the Communion Service to be held in the Frauenkirche, Dresden before returning to the UK.
The “Meissen relationship” between the Church of England and the German Protestant Church (EKD) is now well into its second decade, and an increasing number of dioceses and parishes are involved in partnerships.
