Harold’s Cross Park link with St Patrick’s – lecture
On Tuesday the final lecture in the current lunchtime series in City Hall, Dublin, on Dublin Parks will be given at 1.10pm. Dr Raymond Refaussé from the RCB Library will speak about Harold’s Cross Park and its links with St Patrick’s Cathedral. In the evening at 8pm in Belvedere House, Mullingar, there will be fundraising event in aid of St Bigseach’s church, Kilbixy. The architectural historian, Richard Hewlings, will speak on ‘The Originality of James Hoban’, designer of the White House.
Church or Ireland Historical Society May meeting, Armagh
Church or Ireland Historical Society which will be held in the Public Library Armagh (Robinson Library) on Saturday 7 May, beginning at 10.30am.
In the morning session Dr Marie Therese Flanagan, Professor of Medieval History in Queen’s University, Belfast, will speak on ‘Episcopal culture in the twelfth-century Irish church.’ She will be followed by Ms Suzanne Forbes, a Ph D student in UCD whose talk will be ‘Publick and Solemn Acknowledgements: occasional days of prayer, fasting and thanksgiving in Ireland, 1689-1702.’ which was the subject of her COIHS Prize Essay in 2010.
After lunch Prof. Andrew Carpenter, now retired from the School of English in UCD, will talk about ’The verse in Marsh’s Library: sacred, secular, satirical, and (even) saucy.’ The final contribution will be from Mr George Woodman, a prominent Church of Ireland layman in Belfast, whose topic will be ‘An unlikely devotional ecumenist: Richard Mant and his translations from the Roman Breviary.’
There will be an opportunity for members to renew their annual subscriptions, if they have not done so already. The annual subscription is fixed last November at £35 or €40 Non-members are most welcome. They are asked to subscribe £7 or €10 to assist with the expenses of the conference.

Divine Healing Ministries Day of Prayer
Will be held in St. Anne’s Cathedral, Donegall Street, Belfast on Saturday, June 25, 2011, from 10.30 – 3.30 pm. The theme will be: Revival – The Real Hope For This Country
Guest speakers include the Bishop of Derry & Raphoe, the Right Revd Ken Good; Pastor Lindsay Allen from Carrickfergus; Paul and Sharon Reid, Worship leaders in the Christian Fellowship Church at Strandtown, Belfast; and Des Dick, one of the leaders of Charis.
Vacant sees
This Easter both the diocese of Clogher and Tuam, Killala & Achonry will be without a bishop. Clogher is vacant following the translation of Dr Jackson to Dublin and although the Very Revd Patrick Rooke has been elected as Bishop of Tuam he has yet to be consecrated.
