National Day of Commemoration
Archbishop Jackson will attend the National Day of Commemoration ceremony at the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham on Sunday, 10 July at 11.00am.
New Music work by Dublin curate
This Sunday 10 July at 8pm in St Michael’s Church, Dún Laoghaire, organist Carole O’Connell will be joined by NSO percussionist Roger Moffatt and Anne-Marie O’Farrell, curate in Sandford and Milltown, on pedal and wire strung harps, for the premiere of Anne-Marie’s new work, ‘The Lauding Ear’.
‘The Lauding Ear’ (2011) is based on Psalm 150; a psalm of praise that names a range of musical instruments used in ancient temple worship. They are all used at in some point in the piece, and so they passages suggest particular verses of the psalm.
The group will also perform Brian Boydell’s ‘Confrontations in a Cathedral’ for organ, harp and percussion. Solo organ works in the recital will include music by Buxtehude, Reger, Sweelinck and JS Bach.

Annual Outdoor Service at Clonmacnoise
The service at the Monastic Site in Co. Offaly, will be held on Sunday 17th July, 4pm. The address will be given by The Rev’d Dr. Adrian Empey. The organisers advise: Bring seat, picnic, umbrella and visit St. Kieran’s Church after the service. Parking available in adjacent field. Bring your friends. Every one is welcome to attend.
Directions: From the N6 at Athlone, East Side by pass take the Birr turn off N62, at Ballinahown take the turn off to Clonmacnoise and follow road to end. Birr, Ballinahown and Clonmacnoise are clearly marked on visible road signs.

Cork Mayoral visit
The annual courtesy visit of the new Lord Mayor of Cork to the Bishop of Cork at the Bishop’s Palace took place on Tuesday 5th July. The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Terry Shannon, the Lady Mayoress,Mrs Ursula Shannon) and the Cork City Manager, Mr Tim Lucey were welcomed by the Bishop and Mrs Susan Colton.
Garden of rest in Derry parish
A ‘Garden of Tranquillity and Reflection’ has been created beside the Macosquin Parish Church, Derry Diocese, as a quiet place for visitors to enjoy and where ashes can be interred after cremation. It was dedicated on sunday last by Canon Gerry Carson and the Rector, Rev Mike Roemellie. The Garden has two benches and four small areas of shrubs and flowers and is in keeping both with the parish church and the surrounding graveyard.
Urban Soul, Dublin City Centre
Urban Soul was held in Dublin City Centre from Tuesday, 5 July to Friday, 8 July. The Main Event Venue was The Exchange, Gardiner St.
Urban Soul is an active citizenship programme for youth (15+ years). By partnering with local communities, they seek to serve them and empower them to achieve their dreams. Urban Soul gathers young people who are passionate about social action through projects like area clean-ups, visiting the elderly, running community events, etc.

Donoughmore Fête & Sports Day including Dog Show
The Donoughmore Annual Fête & Sports Day, which this year includes a Dog Show, will take place on Monday, 1 August (Bank Holiday) in Donoughmore church grounds, which is situated in the scenic Glen of Imaal, just off the N81 between Blessington and Baltinglass.
Starting at 1pm, it promises to be a great day out for all the family with a bouncy castle, large array of stalls and lots of fun activities including Junior Football at 1.30pm, Sports at 2.30pm and Dog Show at 3.30pm, followed by a Mini-Auction.
The day will feature lots of new attractions including Japanese Sumo Wrestling where people wearing ‘sumo suits’ see who can stay on their feet for the longest in the wrestling ring!
The categories in the Dog Show include: ‘Best Puppy with Waggie Tail’; ‘Best Handled Dog (on a lead) by a Child’; ‘Best Large Dog’; ‘Best Small Dog‘; Best Groomed Dog’; ‘Most Obedient Dog (3 commands or more)’; ‘Overall Champion Dog’. Entry fee is €5 per dog.
