Derry Cathedral choir recording ‘Home Town Girl’

The Organist and Master of the Choristers, Ian Mills, and the Boys and Gentlemen of Derry Cathedral Choir are preparing to produce a new CD.

This will feature the hymns of Cecil Frances Alexander as well as some musical settings of her much loved words. Dr. Martin Neary, former Organist and Master of the Choristers at Westminster Abbey, has kindly agreed to act as a musical consultant/editor for the CD which Dean William Morton hopes will be available in September.

St Columb’s Cathedral was the setting for a unique performance by Northern Ireland Opera of the first act of Puccini’s opera “Tosca” recently. This was a production of Puccini’s thrilling masterpiece as never before staged anywhere in the UK. The singers, orchestra and audience, made a brief journey between Acts – to the Guildhall for Act Two and on to the walls of Derry for Act Three.

A brilliant cast and the sensational music of one of the world’s great operas truly made this unique production an evening to remember. Sadly, the performance on one evening was interrupted by a bomb scare. See earlier report the site.
