Masters at Maynooth for Queen’s University chaplain

Assistant chaplain at Queen’s University, Sr Eileen O’Connell OP, graduated from St Patrick’s Maynooth this week with a Masters in Theology. She was awarded First Class Honours. Her friends at the chaplaincy centre congratulated her on this great achievement.

Now May We Singen by Cuore Chamber Choir

Cuore Chamber Choir will present their Christmas concert, Now May We Singen, conducted by Amy Ryan, in St Andrews Church, Westland Row, Saturday, 14 December 2019, 8.00pm

Hear a feast of European Advent music spanning across centuries and borders, featuring polychoral works and contemporary pieces from composers including McDowall, Victoria, Praetorius, Weelkes, Howells, Busto, Gjeilo and more.

Cuore Chamber Choir is an award-winning ensemble at the heart of choral music making in Dublin. Since its formation in 2014, the choir has won 1st prizes at most of the major competitions in Ireland, including multiple trophies at Cork International Choral Festival in April 2018. The choir recently made their international debut, performing at Zêzere Arts Festival, Portugal in July.

Choirs to serenade in Cong

The Lodge at Ashford Castle’s Harbour Ballroom will host the Winter Serenade Concert featuring The Mayo Male Voice Choir, Cong Church Choir and The Presentation College Headford Choir and Musicians this Saturday, November 16, at 8pm.

The ever-popular Mayo Male Voice Choir, established in 2000, now has over 50 members from all parts of Mayo. The choir sings from a wide-ranging and entertaining repertoire, including classical, popular, musicals, ballads, sacred music and, of course, Christmas carols. Under the direction of Deirdre Lee since its inception, the choir is currently planning their 20th anniversary celebrations for 2020, which will include a major concert both in Mayo and in New York. The multi-award-winning choir has performed all over Ireland, the UK, Germany and Prague and has hosted many concerts. Accompanist is Rebecca Cresham.

Cong Church Choir consists of members from the church area of Cong in South Mayo. The choir performs every Sunday at Mass and have also over the years taken part in other performances, including fundraising concerts in Cong Church. The choir, formed over 20 years ago, has also appeared on television, including on RTÉ’s Nationwide. Musical director is Wyndham Little and the choir is accompanied by Mary Glynn.

Presentation College Headford secondary school for boys and girls was founded in 1949. The choir is directed by Siobhán Shaughnessy and accompanied by Ita Cunningham. The concert is facilitated by the Mayo International Choral Festival, and all funds raised go towards the running of the festival.
