Rubicon Conference in Rathmines

As part of the Rathmines Church Project, the Rubicon Conference will be opened by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin in Rathmines Town Hall on Good Friday and will continue on Holy Saturday.

The conference, which  will be a build up to the official launch of the project on Easter Sunday at noon in Holy Trinity Church, Rathmines, will be intimate and intentional – a small environment designed to draw together innovators and the best ideas through which the Gospel can be embodied in public life.

Rubicon is being created as a yearly gathering where church and cultural leaders can come together to collaborate and explore ideas about how the Gospel can be expressed within today’s cultural context. The conference’s method of learning will be simple -exposure, conversation and collaboration. The organisers do not want to create just another conference but, instead, will intentionally seek to provide a platform for the best and brightest ideas that are shaping this island and the world. By bringing together leaders from the media, education, politics, arts and entertainment, business, the social sector and the church to learn from one another, it is hoped to instigate lively interaction and learning. The organisers believe that inherent in Christian faithfulness is the responsibility to create a better world, one that reflects God’s original design and intention. Rubicon is to be a place where those gathered will be able to explore what that might look like and how God’s intention is showing up in the lives of their peers and the cultural projects they create.

Presenters at Rubicon 2011 will include Phyilis Tickle (author of The Great Emergence), Alan Scott (Causeway Vineyard), Gavin Jennings (RTÉ Radio 1), Ethno-Graphic Films (USA Film Company) the Very Revd Dermot Dunne (Christ Church Cathedral) and Fr Peter McVerry (Homeless Trust).
