Luke 10:37b Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
Jesus answers the question of who our neighbours are with a parable of action. We don’t get to pick and choose our neighbours. We can never learn this lesson too many times: Everyone needs something.
Look around you. Somebody has an illness. Somebody just had a dream crushed. Somebody has a broken heart. Somebody needs to be heard. Somebody needs a hug and a glass of water. These somebodies are our neighbors. Jesus says that when we love our neighbours as ourselves, we will tend to their needs like we would our own.
Jesus calls us to be on the lookout for each other’s needs, to treat and meet our neighbours with love and grace. The Samaritan treats the injured man with mercy. Jesus says, Go and do likewise.
