There are so many ways to “publish” the glorious deeds of God today. It simply means to communicate to a third party. When I consider the vast mountain of online nonsense I can find with any Google search, I conclude that publishing has been embraced by everybody worldwide. So, what of me? I have the usual social media platforms and I can self-identify as a follower of Jesus alongside all the rest of the homespun news and views I might like to publish. So I make my disciple’s eye view of God and the world available on every platform I can.
On Premier Christian Radio every Sunday between 1 and 3pm, I broadcast someone’s God-story told in their own words. These are powerful because they offer their authentic encounters with God. This is a personal interpretation of how God was there for them. It stands as an honest declaration published for the world to hear and react to.
When I fail to publish my God-story, I leave a vacuum, which will get filled with all kinds of trash. While some like to point the finger at the failure of Christianity, it is in fact liberal secularism which has had sufficient time in power to show a better way. It’s no good seeking to blame Christianity for what needs fixing in society when it has been largely removed from the public square for some years. As disciples we’ve retreated and become complicit in that silence.
I am convinced by the Christian message and will declare it. People don’t need to agree but I want them to be aware that God is available. One reason it’s essential to enable Premier to continue broadcasting and publishing is because it offers God’s voice among the thousands of confusing sounds that fill the airwaves, magazines and online space. Things will only get worse if Premier’s voice is silenced – who knows what trash will fill the consequent vacuum?
