Swedish Church tour of Irish Churches

The Church of Ireland Student Centre at Queen’s University are currently hosting a group of Swedish visitors.

A group of 33 guests of all ages have travelled from Två Systrars Church in Sweden. As well as touring and having fun together, the group is meeting with people from churches in Ireland.

Två Systrars Church is located in the suburbs of Kalmar on Sweden’s east coast. The Swedish church is part of the the Porvoo Communion and has many connections with the Anglican Church.

The group arrived in Dublin on Wednesday past where their activities included a visit to an Irish pub and to Trinity College, as well as a chance to see the sights of the Irish capital.

They came north yesterday stopping first in Armagh for a visit to the city and a tour of St Patrick’s Cathedral, before moving to Belfast and their base at the Student Centre at Queen’s, known as The Hub. Last night The Hub welcomed the visitors and hosted a shared Anglican / Lutheran worship service.

Today, those who wish can take a bus trip to the Antrim coast and enjoy some of Northern Ireland’s most iconic scenery.

Tomorrow, Sunday, the group will go to different churches around Belfast, and that afternoon will visit Methody College where they will be greeted by the Rev David Neilands.

On the Monday morning, the Rev Barry Forde, Church of Ireland Chaplain at Queen’s, will guide the Swedish group on a walking tour of local churches in the neighbourhood. The group departs Belfast for the return trip to Copenhagen early on Tuesday June 28.
