In St George’s Church, High Street, Belfast on Saturday 22nd October. The Bishop will preside at a 12noon Eucharist followed by lunch at 1pm. At 2pm Bishop Gandiya will give a talk about the severe repression that Anglican Christians in his diocese and throughout Zimbabwe are experiencing now at the hands of the Mugabe regime.
Churches, schools and charitable institutions run by the Anglican Church have been attacked, seized and forcibly closed. Priests, teachers, care staff and church workers have been threatened, intimidated and physically attacked. Ordinary Christians have been beaten up and prevented from attending worship. The Bishop and his family were recently the victims of a vicious robbery at his home.
The rector of St George’, Revd. Brian Stewart, commented, “This is real, on–going, cruel and evil persecution of good Christian people by a discredited, despotic and increasingly desperate regime. Come and hear the truth for yourself from a courageous Christian leader who has stood firm as a Bishop and pastor to his flock and been an inspiration to his priests and people in their hour of trial.”
