A QUOTE, A TEXT AND A PRAYER…OR TWO
A QUOTE
Love always involves responsibility, and love always involves sacrifice. And we do not really love Christ unless we are prepared to face His task and to take up His Cross. William Barclay
A TEXT
A Dialogue on The Beatitudes iii
Lord Jesus, you said, ”Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” Aid us to make peace in our families, in our country, and in the world.
Lord Jesus, you said, ”Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of justice, for the kingdom of heaven in theirs.” Make us willing to suffer for the sake of right rather than to practice injustice; and do not let us discriminate against our neighbours and oppress and persecute them. Amen
AND A PRAYER…OR TWO
Grant, Lord, that we may live in your fear, die in your favour, rest in your peace, rise in your power and reign in your glory; for your own beloved Son’s sake, Jesus Christ our Lord. William Laud (1573-1645)
O Lord our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day; defend us in the same with thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger, but that all our doings may be ordered by thy governance, to do always that is righteous in thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. The Third Collect at Morning Prayer – The Book of Common Prayer
