Last week the Northern Regional College confirmed it had reached an agreement with St Patrick’s Church of Ireland authorities to purchase the parish centre, a listed building and halls at 48 – 56 Brook Street, adjacent to the College’s Union Street campus.
The key land acquisition will take forward the College’s plans for a new state of the art campus on its current site.
Northern Regional College says its proposed new £35 million campus in Coleraine will be “a landmark building” for the town.
The sale of the land was handled by Richard Mc Laughlin, MRICS and principal of Northern Real Estate, Coleraine.
Richard said: “We are pleased to have acted on behalf of St Patrick’s Church Of Ireland, Coleraine, in facilitating an agreement with NRC . “The agreement allows for the NRC to expand their existing campus into the St Patrick’s Brook Street site.
“Additionally it now allows for St Patrick’s Church Of Ireland to consider developing their existing town centre Church Street/Kingsgate location. “This is a major boost for education in Coleraine and for the expected redevelopment of the Kingsgate end of the town both of which will attract direct and indirect economic benefits to Coleraine.”
A spokesperson for NRC commented: “The project team is working to a schedule which would provide for a new campus building in Coleraine for the academic year 2021/22. “This work will include a comprehensive pre-planning community consultation in Spring 2018.
“The new campus, with a projected investment of approximately £35million, will contain state of the art facilities for students and staff. “This exciting new development will provide a landmark building which will be prestigious and sensitive to the townscape and the heritage of the site.” Based on Coleraine Times report.
