Focus on MU in Oxford Diocese

Oxford is a large diocese as it covers three counties – Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

The principal city is Oxford and the Mothers’ Union has a small office at Christ Church.

The diocese has several large towns where there are branches: Banbury, Buckingham, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, Windsor, Reading, Newbury, Bicester, Bracknell, High Wycombe as well as smaller towns. A large part of the diocese consists of rural areas. For a full list look at Deaneries and Branches

There are over 2,000 branch members in 87 branches and 170 Diocesan members.

The Diocese of Oxford comes within the Province of Canterbury and within this Province is linked with Southwark Diocese.

It also has links with the Mothers’ Union in seven World Wide dioceses:
Owerri, Orlu, Okiigwe North and Okigwe South in Nigeria;
Boga, Kisangani and Aru in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The links between dioceses in the UK and Ireland and the overseas dioceses are maintained by prayer and correspondence. Occasionally visits are made by members from the linked dioceses and members from Oxford have visited the links in Africa.

Some branches have made their own links for various reasons with branches outside the UK and Ireland – usually through some kind of personal contact.

Each branch runs its own programme of talks, events and projects. They also work together in deaneries and in larger area groupings.

Information about branches, deaneries and area groups, together with contact details can be obtained from the Mothers Union office in Oxford.
