with the BBC Singers will be broadcast on Sunday 17 April 2011 at 8pm from St Paul’s Knightsbridge, 32a Wilton Place, London SW1
The BBC Singers perform music for Holy Week, including a new commission by Francis Pott and a work which has become a classic of the 20th-century choral repertoire – Herbert Howells’ Requiem. Composed as a private response to the tragic death of his nine-year old son, the piece lay hidden away until the 1980s, when a first public performance brought the work instant recognition as one of its composer’s most searching and deeply felt sacred works.
