MU – From Enniskillen to Cork

Branch growth; diocesan conference; work with young people

Enniskillen Cathedral Branch growth

A volunteer from ‘Talking Newspapers’ was the speaker at the September meeting of the Cathedral branch in Enniskillen and eleven new members were welcomed. Two of young parishioners, Mark Campbell and Matthew Coulter were the speakers at the October meeting about their recent trip to America with the Ulster Project. The two boys gave a very enthusiastic talk on their life changing experience, and no doubt they learned a lot about tolerance and respect of difference being the components of reconciliation. At this meeting another seven new members were welcomed. A big enrolment service in the making! The speaker at the November meeting was Helen Humphries, from the church’s Ministry of Healing. In December members will have an outing to Ardhowen Theatre to see the musical “Oliver”.

‘Small Change – Big Difference’

The Mothers’ Union in Cork, Cloyne and Ross held a conference in the Celtic Ross Hotel, Rosscarbery from 18th to 20th November. The theme was ‘Small Change: Big Difference.’ The keynote speaker was Mary Good and workshops included: the changing church (led by Jean Ritchie), positive thinking really does change your brain (Avril Jennings), freedom to choose (Sylvia Helen) and a Christian’s response to poverty and injustice (Cliona Murphy from Tearfund).

Love for Life

C.D.Y.C. in partnership with the Mothers Union hosted an information evening last month in St. Luke’s  Education Centre, Mahon, Cork. ‘Love for Life’ are an independent charity who have a vision of communities where young people have a healthy respect for themselves, relationships and sex. The evening gave parents an opportunity to gain an understanding of the pressures that our young people are experiencing in today’s society.
