St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, Scholarship for Charles Wood Singer, Irish Youth Choir Concert, Organ duet recital, Work in progress

St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin
The Cathedral Choir is currently on tour in England – until August 8. Tomorrow, August 6th there will be a  Lunchtime Recital by Common Time Music Studio from 12:00-13:00. There will also be a recital at the same time on August 8, by Holy Rosary School Choir Edenvale, South Africa. The visiting choir August 15 − 21 is from St Luke’s Cathedral, Ontario, Canada

Scholarship for Charles Wood Singer
Alto Edward McMullan, who has been a member of the Charles Wood Singers for some years has been selected to participate in ‘Genesis Sixteen’. The training programme which was devised by Harry Christophers, founder of The Sixteen, aims to nurture the next generation of ensemble singers.

Irish Youth Choir Concert
On Sunday 3 July, eighty of Ireland’s finest young singers, the Irish Youth Choir, performed a stunning cappella programme in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin,  marking the anniversaries of Ciconia (1335-1411), Victoria (1548-1611), Gustav Mahler (1816-1911) and Grainger (1882-1961). Among the pieces performed were: O Padua, Sidus Praeclarum by Johannes Ciconia and Die Zwei Blauen Augen and Es Sungen Drei Engel by Mahler.

Organ duet recital
Organ music lovers were enthralled at the music played at the organ duet recital by
David Leigh and Charles Harrison,  in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin on the evening of 27 July. The programme included music by Mendelssohn, Langlais Tomkins and Andrew Johnstone, one time Assistant Organist of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, and now a lecturer in Music in Trinity College, Dublin. The programme consisted of seven pieces of music and
delighted all in the audience. The night also marked the launch of the recitalists’ CD, Organ Duets which is for sale in the Cathedral shop at €13.95.

Work in progress
On Saturday 6th August  members of the Select Vestry and other parishioners will be going to Belfast for a day-out  together and to visit the workshop of Philip Prosser,  where they will see the progress he has made with the restoration of the Church Organ  which is due to be complete in time for a special Advent Carol Service with the choir and Organist of St Columb’s Cathedral  at the beginning of December.
