Lunchtime Recitals in Christ Church Dublin

Portadown concert
Portadown Times – It will be a case of the magnificent organ in Portadown’s St Mark’s Church of Ireland being the centre-piece of raising cash for its own restoration fund on Friday, May 18, with more than a little help from the town’s top choirs.
The Walker organ underwent a £45,000 overhaul at the latter end of 2011, and with £20,000 still to be raised, the church is organising a rousing night of music, featuring four choirs and there organists.

The ensembles involved are the St Mark’s Parish Choir, Counterpoint, Portadown Ladies Choir and Portadown Male Voice Choir. And at the keyboards will be current St Mark’s organist Stuart Nelson, former organist Richard Campbell (now at St George’s, Belfast) and Stephen Timpany of Seapatrick, Banbridge.

All the award-winning choirs will be drawing from their extensive repertoire, secular and sacred, and it will end with all four uniting for a massed choir singalong.

Tickets are priced £10 and can be had from members of St Mark’s Choir, from Winnie’s Newsagents of Woodhouse Street, and from Gordon Speers Carpets of Bridge Street. The venue is St Mark’s Church and it starts at 8pm. The work was carried out by Wells and Kennedy of Lisburn and it lasted from June last year until November.
