The Royal School of Church Music will hold its Voice for Life award ceremony at 4.00 pm on 1 October 2011 at St Mary’s Pro–Cathedral, Dublin, where the cathedral will be filled with the sound of choristers, drawn from churches and cathedrals around the country for the presentation of their certificates.
Choristers (within both the Roman Catholic and Anglican traditions) throughout Ireland work towards Bronze, Silver and Gold awards each year. This service will be an opportunity to congratulate choristers who have won an award in the last year on their achievement (each award winner will be presented with their certificates during the service) as well as an opportunity for choristers from the whole island to come together and sing.
A number of singers have achieved success in their Bronze, Silver or Gold Voice for Life awards examinations during the past academic year. RSCM Ireland, in association with St Mary’s Pro–Cathedral, is marking the success of these young people by inviting them to sing alongside altos, tenors and basses taken from the choirs from which they come.
The RSCM’s Voice for Life training scheme provides a framework for choral singers to develop their vocal skills, their musical and liturgical understanding and their knowledge of repertoire. The scheme comes with a range of teaching material and supporting resources and gives plenty of advice on the practicalities of running a choir. It is intended to enable choir trainers and teachers to train their choir or group more effectively, and to help singers grow as people as well as musicians. All are encouraged to support our next generation of church musicians by attending the service which begins at 16.00.
