Sedbergh School to host RSCM Easter course for choristers

Choral course in Cumbria this April

This popular North of England course which takes place every year during the school holidays, will move to Sedbergh School, set on the western side of the Pennines. It runs from Monday 11th to Thursday 14th April 2011.

The course provides a perfect combination of recreation and inspirational music-making for young choristers aged 10 to 17 years, from churches throughout the north of England and beyond. Those who take part will have the opportunity to sing daily services in Sedbergh School’s large chapel and the town’s parish church, and make the most of the school’s extensive recreational facilities including a swimming pool.

The course is directed by Gordon Appleton, the RSCM’s Regional Music Adviser in the North of England, supported by a team of experienced musical and pastoral tutors. “Sedbergh will be a great new venue for young people to meet, make music and play together. Not only does their singing improve, but also their confidence, social skills and independence,” he said.

In previous years, this popular Easter holiday course for young people has been held at other schools in the north of England; Gordon Appleton has directed many of them. “One of the great glories of the RSCM continues to be its superb work inspiring young singers. Having been on one course, many come back year after year. They return to their home choirs refreshed and with a marked new degree of motivation and competence in their singing!”

Further information about this residential course, and others for church musicians of all ages including adult singers and organists, is available on the RSCM website www.rscm.com or by telephoning 01722 424843.
