Week of Prayer for Christian Unity update

In preparation for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which begins next Tuesday 18th January, the Church of Ireland’s Commission for Christian Unity and Dialogue has reminded clergy that service material provided by Churches Together in Britain and Ireland  is available for free download at www.ctbi.org.uk/weekofprayer.

On Tuesday evening the Archbishop of Dublin will preside at the inaugural service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in St John the Baptist Church, Clontarf, where the preacher will be Archbishop Diarmuid Martin. On the same evening the Belfast Cathedrals’ Partnership Unity Week Service will be held at 7.00 pm in St Peter’s Cathedral where the preacher will be the Bishop of Meath & Kildare who is currently President of the Irish Council of Churches. Bishop Clarke will preach again on Wednesday evening at the Armagh Christian Unity Week Service in St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cathedral.

On Thursday evening the Vice President of the Irish Council of Churches, Fr Godfrey O’Donnell, from the Romanian Orthodox Church, will preach in the Chapel of Trinity College, Dublin.

There will be an Interdenominational Service of Prayer and Music in Irish on Friday evening at 8pm in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, under the auspices of Cumann Gaelach na hEaglaise and Pobal an Aifrinn. The theme of the service will be ‘One in the Apostles’ Teaching, Fellowship, Breaking of Bread and Prayer’ and the preacher will be the Revd David McDonnell. At the same time in Rossorry parish church, Co. Fermanagh, the preacher at the Christian Unity Week Service will be Fr Brian D’Arcy SJ.
