A prayer for each day of the week
Sunday
Collect for Remembrance Sunday
Almighty God,
keep us mindful of all your benefits
and heedful of our high calling,
that we may yield ourselves
in new obedience to your holy will,
and live henceforth as those who are not their own,
but are bought with a price;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
Living God,
today we remember again the awful cost of war,
the millions who have given their lives for the cause of freedom,
the fear, pain, tragedy and grief of so many.
We remember those who still mourn for loved ones lost,
those whose lives even now are blighted by war.
We remember also those who strive
to establish and maintain peace
and promote harmony between nations.
Ever-living God
we remember those whom you have gathered
from the storm of war into the peace of your presence;
may that same peace calm our fears,
bring justice to all peoples and establish harmony among the nations,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
God is our refuge and strength;
a very present help in trouble.
Psalm 46.1
Monday
Loving God,
in a world where justice has not rolled down as waters,
nor righteousness as a mighty stream,
where knowledge floods in, but there is only a trickle of wisdom,
we pray for your church.
Turn our efforts to good, so that as our understanding increases, our sense of responsibility will deepen, and we will complete our time here having made the world more habitable, and ourselves more humane.
We pray this, O God, in the power of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
Tuesday
Almighty God,
surrounded by a host of demands, we seek direction for our lives.
Give us patience in the face of provocation.
Sustain our hope that disturbed relationships can be improved.
Sway us away from indifference and indolence.
Show us the way we can produce love in action in our families.
Encourage us when we are afraid of the demands of your righteousness.
Amen.
Wednesday
Lord we pray that we will make stewardship a way of Life. We acknowledge you as the source of all we have and all we are.
Help us to place you, our loving Creator, first in our lives by becoming more prayerful, more focused on loving and caring for our families and our neighbours in need, and by becoming less preoccupied with material things.
Help us to hear your call to be good stewards, caretakers, and managers of all your gifts by sharing them for your purposes.
Help us make your priorities our priorities and to put our faith into action. Help us plan to “give back” the talents, treasures and time with which we have been blessed.
Help us plan to serve our church, our community, and our world with your gifts.
May we serve you and pray with a joyful spirit of mind and heart. Amen
Thursday
Preserve us with your grace, O God, our whole journey through; that we may live by faith, die in your favour, rest in your peace, rise in your power and reign in your glory, in the joy of Christ and in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, with whom you live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.
Nicholas Ferrar (1592-1637)
Friday
God of surprises,
in Jesus you were often found on the borderlands:
leading people beyond the frontiers of the familiar
to discover new truth.
Equip us with the wisdom and imagination
to negotiate those boundaries
that isolate individuals and divide communities,
so that even chasms of difference
may become channels of your transforming grace. Amen.

Saturday
Lord Jesus Christ, as those who are sick we come to the physician of life; as unclean, to the fountain of mercy; as blind, to the light of eternal splendour; as needy, to the Lord of heaven and earth; and as naked, to the king of glory. Amen.
Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274)
