Christian Aid’s online Advent resources

Global development agency Christian Aid is offering people a “thought provoking, chocolate-free countdown to the Christmas celebrations.”

From Advent Sunday, 27 November 2011, visitors to www.christianaid.org.uk/christmas will get a short daily reflection as a virtual candle lights up against a backdrop of faces of those whose lives are being changed by the work of Christian Aid and its partners across the world.

The reflections take visitors on several journeys – Mary and Joseph’s visit to Bethlehem, the reader’s own personal journey from darkness into light, and thoughts from various Christian Aid partners.

Accompanied by the voices of the prophets and the saints, songwriters and poets, those using the calendar are encouraged to journey further towards justice in relation to their faith.

For those looking for more in depth reflections, whether that is for a church service, home group, or personal use, Christian Aid is also offering a series of more traditional reflections for Advent.

These downloadable resources explore the themes of HIV and AIDS, Climate Change, Corruption and Conflict, and each contains prayers and a link to more information on the Christian Aid website.
