The 152-mile bike ride, exclusive to Christian Aid, is open to cyclists of all abilities and will begin in Esher Common, Greater London on 22 September and arrive in Weymouth on 23 September.
During the first day, the cyclists will take in the sights of Guildford Cathedral, Winchester Cathedral and Mottisfont Abbey, before arriving at the campsite and tucking into a barbecue on the edge of the picturesque New Forest.
The second day will take them down to the stunning Jurassic Coast, passing Salisbury Cathedral, and catching the Sandbanks ferry to the Isle of Perbeck. The route will continue past Corfe and Lulworth Castles, before finishing the ride on Weymouth seafront.
Riders will be in the saddle between six and eight hours a day but will be provided with rest stops and refreshments.
A £50 registration fee will secure a place and all participants are asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £350.
Everyone taking part will receive a training T-shirt, nutritional and training advice, a fundraising pack, a celebratory medal at the end of the challenge and plenty of encouragement from Christian Aid’s Team Poverty.
Libby Gordon, Events Manager said: ‘Christian Aid cycle challenge events have proved really popular since we launched the London to Paris bike ride in 2009. Therefore we decided to launch a new two-day cycling challenge for 2012. We are the only charity offering the Cathedrals to Coast ride, a chance for people to get on their bikes and enjoy some amazing British countryside.
“It’s a great way to get fit, so why not make it your new year’s resolution? Challenge events are a win-win, the people who take part, have fun and challenge themselves, and the money they raise helps Christian Aid to fund its vital work with poor communities around the world.”
The new cycle challenge joins Christian Aid’s portfolio of 11 running, cycling and trekking events, which have raised more than £1million during the past three years.
