RETIREMENTS
Canon George Hilliard has retired as Chaplain of UCC and from full-time ministry.  At a lunch hosted by the Bishop of Cork,  Bishop Colton referred to the fact that Canon Hilliard was in many ways ‘the retiring father of the Diocese’ having served in Cork, Cloyne and Ross continuously since 1976.

The Most Revd Dr John Neill, Archbishop of Dublin, will celebrate the Eucharist at Christ Church Cathedral on Tuesday, 25 January at 6.00pm. The service will mark both the VCP-510 25th anniversary of his consecration and his retirement as Archbishop.

APPOINTMENTS
The Revd Henry Blair, Curate Assistant of Magheraculmoney Parish has been appointed as Rector of Magheraculmoney Parish , Ardess, Diocese of Clogher.

Mr Jonny Phenix, Youth Minister with Ballinamallard Methodist Church and Magheracross Parish Church, Ballinamallard has been appointed as Diocesan Youth Officer with the Diocese of Clogher. See report – Children and Youth – this site.

COMMISSIONING
The Most Revd Dr John Neill, Archbishop of Dublin, will preside at the Commissioning of the new DIT Chaplain, the Revd J P Kavanagh, at Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday, 16 January at 3.30pm.

OFF TO PIP AND JAY’S
The Reverend Tim Silk, associate rector of Kill O’the Grange, Dublin, will be leaving in the spring of 2011 to take up the position of Vicar of St Philip and St James Parish in Bristol, England. “Pip and Jay’s” as it is widely known, is an iconic church in the West of England, where the retiring vicar is
Malcolm Widdecombe, brother of Ann Widdecombe of string of Strictly Come Dancing fame.

MEMORIAL TO DEAN DESMOND HARMAN
A plaque has been erected in Santry parish church to commemorate the ministry of Dean Harman, a former rector of Santry and Glasnevin. The plaque was dedicated during the Carol Service on December 19.

CHURCH HOUSE MEETINGS
In Church of Ireland House, Rathmines, on Monday 24 January; the House of Bishops (10:30), the Archbishops and Honorary Secretaries (12:00), the Pensions Board (14:00) and the Board of Education (RI) (16:15).

LAUNCH OF FRIENDS OF ST ANN’S SOCIETY, DUBLIN
The Friends of St Ann’s Society will be launched in the Mansion House on 19 January at 8.00pm by Archbishop Neill and Lord Mayor Gerry Breen.

Membership will be open to all denominations and include former parishioners, members of the choir and Boys’ Brigade who can no longer regularly attend services and other events in the church, city centre businesses and representatives of the various organisations which use the church’s premises.

Members will be added to a mailing list and receive information about upcoming events in the church. They will also be invited to enjoy ‘members only’ events including a bi-annual Fundraising Gala Dinner and a Friends’ Festival Service. They will also have their name inscribed in a ‘Friends’ Roll’ to be kept on display in the church.
