Wedding fashion show raises £4,000 for charity and parish

A wedding fashion show staged in Newtownabbey has raised almost £4,000 – to be split between Belfast-based ovarian cancer charity Angels of Hope and St Brigid’s Church of Ireland building fund.

The Glengormley church was packed to capacity with around 400 guests for the event which featured bridal fashions through the years, writes Gary Grattan in The Belfast Telegraph

Organser Molly Grattan explained that the idea to stage the event occurred to her after she had attended a similar event.

“I thought it would be nice to organise it for the ovarian cancer charity because a very good friend of mine died from that awful illness a year ago.

“And because the church’s central heating system had to be replaced we thought we could split the proceeds between the cancer charity and the church building fund.

“I am absolutely delighted with how the event has turned out. I thought everybody – the bridesmaids, brides and the men – all looked stunning,” she said.

The Rev Bill Boyce, rector of St Brigid’s, was one of those taking part in the show.

“I am delighted with the event. There were a lot of people involved and we had many rehearsals……..sometimes we weren’t getting out of the church until 1am!! But it’s all been worth it and its great to have some of the proceeds going to the building fund as we have had to replace the entire central heating system,” he said.
