The Dexter Family Ensemble

Immense talent entertains

John Dexter is a man of huge musical talent and achievement. Many heard his wonderful music performances at St Patrick’s Cathedral, where he was organist and master of choristers for nearly 25 years.

As a schoolboy he sang a specially commissioned solo work for Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother. He was awarded his first music diploma at the age of 16.

This talent has been passed on to his children who form the Dexter Family Ensemble. Each family member is or has been a member of the Dublin Youth Orchestra except for Eoin the youngest. Roisan, the eldest, now directs the Discovery Gospel Choir and all the others are members of various choirs and orchestras.

At their Christmas concert for Dalkey Parish they delighted the audience with a wide variety of music ranging from Schubert and Humperdinck to Lennon/McCartney and Scott Joplin with duets, madrigals, close harmony, and instrumentals. The second half comprised mainly Christmas music which included Eoin, the youngest age 12 who sang “Walking in the air” from the Snowman. John Dexter himself arranged most of the pieces, played the piano accompaniment and thrilled the audience with two spine tingling organ solos.
